About the Safe Control of Operations (SCO)

The introduction of IGEM/GL/6 further emphasised the importance of risk-based management and assessment in gas safety systems while encouraging a flexible approach to gas safety procedures from gas distribution companies as long as it closely follows the requirements outlined in GL/6. The SCO Gas scheme we train engineers closely follows GL/6 requirements. The training course covers a wide range of topics related to gas operations, from risk assessments and emergency response procedures to gas safety legislation; we also specifically offer an Initial programme for beginners in the gas network industry and Renewal programs for engineers with existing SCO accreditation.

At Jason Rowley LTD, we have developed a hybrid approach to the SCO scheme, with face-to-face training for Initial engineers new to the industry with an additional online option for Renewal engineers with an existing SCO accreditation. Participants are required to demonstrate their knowledge of Health & Safety in the gas network and industry through a combination of written and practical assessments. The certification is valid for 5 years and can be renewed upon completing a Renewal program. This ensures that individuals’ knowledge and skills are contemporaneous with the latest industry standards and best practices.
