What Is AED Training and Why Is It Important?

AED training teaches you how to use an automated external defibrillator during a cardiac emergency. It focuses on recognising sudden cardiac arrest, operating an AED device safely, and responding effectively until professional medical help arrives.

When someone suffers cardiac arrest, the heart’s rhythm becomes irregular and blood flow stops. Early defibrillator use, combined with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, significantly improves survival rates. AED training ensures you know how to act quickly, follow the device prompts, and deliver a controlled shock when required.

This training supports workplace health and safety responsibilities and aligns with Health and Safety Executive guidance. It also follows Resuscitation Council UK recommendations for emergency response and defibrillator use in public, workplace, and community settings.

AED training is suitable for first aiders, employees, students, and members of the public who may need to respond to cardiac emergencies with confidence and clarity.

What Will You Learn on the AED Training Course?

AED training focuses on building practical skills and confidence to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies. The course combines awareness training with hands-on practice, ensuring learners understand both the process and the purpose of defibrillator use.

During the course, you learn how to recognise the signs of sudden cardiac arrest, assess the situation safely, and use an AED device correctly. Training covers how automated external defibrillators analyse the heart’s rhythm and guide you through the defibrillation process.

You also learn how to perform CPR alongside AED use, following recognised resuscitation guidance. This includes correct chest compressions, effective communication with emergency services, and managing the casualty until help arrives at the hospital.

The course develops essential skills such as acting quickly under pressure, responding safely to shock prompts, and using defibrillator equipment confidently in workplace, school, and community settings. By the end of the training, learners have the knowledge and confidence to respond during real emergencies.
