What Is a First Aid at Work Course?

Our First Aid at Work course is a comprehensive, three-day work training programme that teaches you how to manage a range of emergency situations. You’ll learn to perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and provide immediate care for medical emergencies until professional medical help arrives.

The training covers:

  • Essential first aid skills for workplace incidents
  • Primary and secondary surveys for assessing casualties
  • Managing spinal injuries, burns, bleeding, and shock
  • Using a first aid box, aid equipment, and an AED safely
  • Placing a casualty in the recovery position and infection prevention

Our First Aid at Work course meets Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and ensures participants receive the recognised First Aid certificate valid for three years.

What Does the First Aid at Work Training Involve?

This three-day work course gives you the knowledge, awareness training, and hands-on skills required to manage a wide range of emergency situations. You’ll learn how to perform CPR, treat burns, manage head injuries, respond to sudden cardiac arrest, and use an AED defibrillator correctly.

Our course content follows the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for workplace first aid training. On successful completion, you’ll receive an aid certificate valid for three years, confirming your status as a qualified first aider.

Who Is This First Aid at Work Course Designed For?

This training is suitable for anyone designated as a first aider at work- especially those in high-risk environments such as construction, utilities, and engineering. Employers are legally required to provide adequate emergency response planning, and trained first aiders form a key part of that responsibility.

It’s also ideal for:

  • Qualified first aiders and appointed persons
  • Supervisors, managers, and team leaders
  • Health and safety personnel in high-risk environments
  • Employees in low-hazard workplaces need formal first aid provision

If your workplace involves machinery, construction, or remote work locations, having trained first aiders is essential to meet first aid regulations and ensure immediate attention during aid emergencies.

What Does First Aid at Work Training Cover?

The First Aid at Work training course combines classroom learning with practical, scenario-based instruction. You’ll develop the practical skills needed to handle medical emergencies with confidence.

Key topics include:

  • Adult CPR and automated external defibrillator operation
  • Sudden cardiac arrest recognition and treatment
  • Managing spinal injuries, head trauma, and fractures
  • Treating burns, bleeding, and shock
  • Basic first aid for unconscious casualties and breathing difficulties
  • Emergency first aid for seizures, allergic reactions, and diabetic episodes
  • Correct use of first aid equipment and maintaining a first aid box

You’ll also learn the importance of safe incident reporting, infection prevention, and communication during critical incidents.

Hands-On Learning and Practical Skills

Hands-on learning and practical skills are central to this course. You’ll work directly with AED training equipment to practise aid skills and deliver chest compressions, as well as carry out CPR as part of realistic emergency scenarios. You’ll also learn how to assess and monitor casualties in live simulations and apply first aid techniques during high-pressure situations.

Each session is delivered by qualified trainers with backgrounds in emergency services and workplace safety. The goal is to help you build real confidence, not just theory, so you’re ready to respond when needed.
