What Does the First Aid at Work Training Involve?

This three-day work course gives you the knowledge, awareness training, and hands-on skills required to manage a wide range of emergency situations. You’ll learn how to perform CPR, treat burns, manage head injuries, respond to sudden cardiac arrest, and use an AED defibrillator correctly.

Our course content follows the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for workplace first aid training. On successful completion, you’ll receive an aid certificate valid for three years, confirming your status as a qualified first aider.

Who Is This Course Designed For?

This training is suitable for anyone designated as a first aider at work- especially those in high-risk environments such as construction, utilities, and engineering. Employers are legally required to provide adequate emergency response planning, and trained first aiders form a key part of that responsibility.

It’s also ideal for:

  • Supervisors and site managers
  • Health and safety personnel
  • Employees working with power tools or heavy equipment
  • Teams in isolated roles where emergency services may be delayed

If your team works around cardiac risk factors, hazardous materials, or machinery, this training provides essential skills that can make a significant difference.

Key Topics Covered in Training

The course includes a comprehensive mix of theory and practical learning:

  • Adult CPR and chest compressions
  • AED training and defibrillator pad placement
  • Recovery position and airway management
  • Spinal injuries and head trauma response
  • Control of bleeding and shock
  • Medical assistance for seizures, burns, and diabetic emergencies
  • Emergency first aid for unconscious casualties
  • Safe incident reporting and effective communication

These first aid emergencies are taught in interactive, practical sessions to help you retain skills and
respond with confidence.

Practical Skills Are Central to the Course

Hands-on learning is central to this course. You’ll work directly with AED training equipment, practise delivering chest compressions, and carry out CPR as part of realistic emergency scenarios. You’ll also learn how to assess and monitor casualties in live simulations and apply first aid techniques during high-pressure situations.

Every session is delivered face-to-face by qualified trainers with extensive experience in workplace safety and UK emergency services. The goal is to help you build real confidence – not just theory – so you’re ready to respond when needed.

In-Person Delivery Ensures Full Engagement

We deliver this course in person at our Manchester training centre or at your own site across the UK (subject to minimum numbers). The format is designed to maximise practical engagement and ensure you build the competence required to act fast and effectively in emergencies.

You’ll learn through scenario-based roleplay, group discussion, live demonstrations, and short assessments. There is no online portion – this training requires physical, face-to-face learning to ensure you develop the practical skills needed to support others and save lives.

Course Duration, Cost and Assessment

Cost: £350 + VAT

Location: Manchester or your chosen UK site

Each participant is assessed through observation and a written exam. Certification is issued on successful completion and remains valid for three years.

AED Training Is Fully Integrated

Our first aid training course includes a full AED training course as part of the wider programme. You’ll learn how to identify sudden cardiac arrest, perform CPR, and apply an automated external defibrillator confidently.
