SHEA Core
Below you can view the currently scheduled available dates for this training:
The SHEA Core course (Safety, Health and Environmental Awareness) introduces essential safety principles and environmental considerations for those working in or around utilities operations. It forms the foundation of the SHEA Core scheme and applies to anyone requiring access to CSCS-controlled sites or temporary utilities operational sites.
The course combines health and safety legislation, environmental awareness training, and practical guidance on controlling risks and common hazards. Participants gain a clear understanding of workplace responsibilities, behavioural awareness, and the emergency response behaviours required in real-world situations.
Delivered by qualified instructors with direct experience in the utilities sector, our SHEA Core training develops both the individual’s understanding and their ability to demonstrate technical competence in a live workplace setting.
The SHEA Core scheme is designed for professionals across all utility industries, including:
It is also suitable for those beginning a career in the safety profession or anyone needing to provide evidence of competence for EUSR registration or CSCS card applications.
Whether you work on permanent or temporary operational sites, this core training ensures you have the appropriate level of knowledge to manage risks, follow safety procedures, and comply with national safety and environmental frameworks.
The SHEA Core course is structured around six core modules that cover the full scope of safety, health, and environmental awareness needed for the utilities sector. Each module builds knowledge, confidence, and behavioural understanding through a mix of classroom learning, group discussion, and practical application.
responsibilities
This module explains the legal frameworks governing health and environmental law. It introduces the term occupational health, the concept of workplace responsibilities, and how to maintain compliance under UK safety and environmental legislation.
You’ll learn to identify and control risks associated with common physical hazards in utility work. This includes occupational health hazards explained clearly, and how controlling risks helps prevent workplace incidents and minimise occupational health hazards.
This module develops your ability to respond effectively during emergencies. It covers emergency response behaviours, communication protocols, and structured actions to take in urgent or high-risk situations.
The environmental awareness module focuses on key environmental considerations, pollution prevention, and sustainability in utilities work. You’ll gain a practical understanding of environmental law, pollution control, and how to reduce environmental impact on temporary and permanent operational sites.
Here, the course explains how occupational health hazards develop and provides guidance on how to minimise occupational health hazards through proactive safety behaviour. It also includes guidance on behavioural awareness, proactive health, and safe work practices to maintain long-term well-being.
The final module focuses on safety behaviours required for CSCS-controlled sites. You’ll learn how to follow site protocols, maintain situational awareness, and apply safe working techniques across utility industries.
